7) Project: Looking through the viewfinder. Exercise: Object in different positions in the frame - Page 27.

Deciding the subject.

This wasn’t a subject that I previously had in mind, this was simply an opportunity seen and taken.  I have been preparing a list of possible subjects and my aim was to shoot an old weary tree, but I saw this on a day out with my family and it was too good an opportunity to pass.

Setting up.

There really was no setting up required here, as it was a spur of the moment subject and just taken on a day out with my family.

Findings and conclusion.

IMG4377e, is a simple point and shoot shot, no thought went into this at all, it was indeed this shot that made me see that the composition, the subject and the surround were appropriate to complete this exercise.

By then moving the subject within the frame to different areas, it is clear to see just by simply moving your subject off centre or to the corner of the shot can indeed dramatically alter the composition and the entire ‘feel’ of the photo and what you are trying to portray.

I was a little disappointed with the photos themselves as you can see there is some noise in the photos, whether this is because I was working at maximum focal range and had slight camera shake, or whether it was the capability of the lens, I could not tell you at this moment in time, I am however finding this to be a consistent feature using this lens as its maximum focal length, it is very few and far between I get sharp images.

The actual composition of the images, I rather like.  Out of the images, IMG4379e is my least favourite.  I feel like the subject is somewhat ‘lost’ due to the amount of foreground which is very plain.  Also by moving them to this position in the frame, you lose the sea altogether, which I believe adds to the composition of the photos and adds a great background.

It is hard for me to choose a favourite between IMG4378e and IMG4380e.  If I did have to make the choice, I think I would choose IMG4380e.  I like the way the subjects are just off centre and I feel like I could walk into the photo with them, the sand leading me in, then leading me to their position, heading towards the sea.

Therefore, my choice from most to least favourite is IMG4380e, IMG4378e, IMG4377e and my least favourite is IMG4379e.
